Celebrate Constitution Day

Posted on: September 2, 2015

Milford Schools will bring history alive during a special celebration of Constitution Day on Thursday September 17, from 4 -6 p.m. at the Spirit of ’76 Memorial Garden at Miami Meadows Park.  Constitution Day is a federal observance that recognizes the adoption of the United States Constitution. This year, Milford High School history teacher Anna O’Neill, is working with her AP history students and Milford High School’s drama department to create a memorable event geared towards preschool and elementary students and their families.

Milford’s Constitution Day celebration will include high school students in period costumes of our Founding Mothers and Fathers performing speeches in character throughout the park. Brief tours will be offered throughout the two hours to visit with historical characters and learn more about our Constitution and history from this time period. Students will receive a booklet for gathering autographs of these historical figures and can participate in a scavenger hunt, Colonial-themed games, and receive a pocket constitution.

Milford board member and local historian, Mr. Gary Knepp has been working with O’Neill on this special event. The preparation of Constitution Day is joint effort between O’Neil’s Advance Placement history students who are researching and preparing the historical speeches, and Sherry McCamley’s drama students who will be cast as historical figures.

The event is free and open to the public.  Miami Meadows is located at 546 OH-131, in Milford.
