At the June Board of Education meeting, Pattison 4th grade teacher DeAnn O’Toole was recognized for her selection as the Ohio Outstanding Earth Science Teacher of 2016 by the National Association of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT).

“Mrs. O’Toole is a dynamic, innovative teacher who is constantly striving to inspire her students to be the best versions of themselves,” said Pattison Principal, Melissa Borger. “She uses her spirited, inexhaustible energy to kindle the desire for learning among her students and peers.”

The NAGT teacher of the year award is for "exceptional contributions to the stimulation of interest in the Earth Sciences at the pre-college level." The selection committee was particularly impressed with Mrs. O’Toole’s implementation of experiential learning, her ability to incorporate outdoor fieldwork to inspire her students and her passion for earth science education.

Mrs. O’Toole received a plaque from NAGT and a certificate of recognition from the Board.

“The district is thankful for DeAnn’s leadership in outdoor learning and look forward to her leading and inspiring other teachers to incorporate more outdoor fieldwork in their science instruction,” said Assistant Superintendent, Mrs. Nancy House.
